The Catherine Woolf Library

Inspired by the infamous fictional novels written by Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct, The Catherine Woolf Library brings two once-imaginary books into the real world. Long referenced but never read, The First Time and Love Hurts have lived for decades as cultural ghosts and symbols of seduction.

As a lifelong admirer of Basic Instinct, I wanted to explore what those books might have been if they had truly existed; what stories Catherine Tramell could have written, and what kind of author might hide behind the pseudonym Catherine Woolf. These novels are not adaptations of the film, but spiritual descendants of it: erotic, unsettling, psychologically sharp, and unconcerned with moral comfort.

Each book stands on its own, but together they form a cohesive literary universe, one where desire and danger are inseparable, and where the smartest person in the room may also be the most dangerous.
