The Catherine Woolf Library

Inspired by the infamous fictional novels written by Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct, The Catherine Woolf Library brings two once-imaginary books into the real world. Long referenced but never read, The First Time and Love Hurts have lived for decades as cultural ghosts and symbols of seduction.

As a lifelong admirer of Basic Instinct, I wanted to explore what those books might have been if they had truly existed - what stories Catherine Tramell could have written, and what kind of author might hide behind the pseudonym Catherine Woolf. These two novels are spiritual descendants of the film: erotic, unsettling, psychologically sharp, and unconcerned with moral comfort.

Each book stands on its own, but together they form a cohesive literary universe, one where desire and danger are inseparable, and where the smartest person in the room may also be the most dangerous.
